sekilas.co – Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon emphasized the importance of Indonesia opening opportunities for cultural cooperation with the Russian Federation and other countries.
This collaboration can span various sectors, including student residency programs and film co-productions.
I see the cultural relationship between Indonesia and Russia growing stronger. More and more Indonesian students are studying in Russia. Perhaps in the future, we can collaborate in cultural areas, such as cultural heritage, museums, or film co-production,” Fadli said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
Fadli explained that literature is a powerful component in the development of national culture. The Minister continued, noting that Leo Tolstoy’s works prove that literature can broaden horizons and contribute knowledge for a better world.
Of course, we are very familiar with Leo Tolstoy. His works are monumental, such as War and Peace and Anna Karenina. We can see that Tolstoy was a significant milestone in 19th-century Russian literature, even one of the pinnacles of world literature. Besides Indonesian literature, I believe Russian literature is one of the best in the world, he explained.

During the inauguration of The Bust of Leo Tolstoy at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) of the University of Indonesia, Depok, West Java, the Minister also appreciated FIB’s initiative in holding the cultural meeting.
According to the Minister, the inauguration of the Leo Tolstoy statue is not merely a symbolic gesture of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia, but a concrete manifestation of the Indonesian government’s efforts to strengthen Indonesian literature on the international stage.
This event is an important opportunity to affirm 75 years of cultural ties between Indonesia and Russia. To celebrate the art of literature, we also hope to donate a statue of Chairil Anwar to be placed at the University of Indonesia or elsewhere, Fadli added.
Fadli emphasized that culture can serve as a binding force in promoting world peace.
Hopefully, the relationship between Russia and Indonesia will grow stronger, especially in the cultural sphere, which can serve as a bond that will allow Indonesia and Russia to move forward together, he concluded.
